Huge news for the community at large, The Warhammer media team have put out a 25 minute video discussion about Underworlds game design, current meta, and direction they want to go in order to improve the balance and competitiveness of the game in this ‘Metawatch’ series. I see this as an absolutely positive sign about both the current health of the game and the future prospects of support and promotion for Underworlds (and can’t help but be happy about the improvements to Sons of Velmorn and Looncourt). Earlier this month I posted an opinion article about the current “ping” meta, and why I am not overly concerned. This is not the only take out there, and recently Mark from Path to Glory posted his own well reasoned and levelheaded opinion piece. Check it out to get the other side of the coin!

Kris Chung has done some mind-blowing work on Grinkrak’s Looncourt, which were painted for the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation’s upcoming Fall raffle. Snag some tickets when they’re available for a good cause and a chance to own this killer set of minis. Plus, Grinkrak just got a nice inspiration buff, so you might surprise people competitively as well

Benoslav has posted up a short report of the painting entries from the Polish Team Championships in Underworlds – An Alliance event with 72 players over 24 teams, mostly from Poland – but also from a few other countries. Some great stuff in here!

Odd_Duty7270 has put together some fluorescent Ephilim’s Pandaemonium in screaming color. They stand out very sharply against the cream basing!

If you’re looking to mix things up in your local scene, consider holding a nemesis “chaos draft” tournament! Check out this report by Borni AKA Raumzeit77 and the South German team.

Green and tarnished gold Sons of Velmorn by micho95. They even added in bits of grass tufts in the cracked masonry which while subtle, adds a lot to the overall effect. They also have finished Ephilim’s Pandaemonium in some vibrant colors – love how the changers all have their own unique look, and the sickly green flames are something else

u/I_Am_Not_Alpharius continued to amaze me, this time with The Crimson Court. Reminds me of the old Gargoyles cartoon series, loving the blue and purple shadowy lighting which pairs very well with the red bases. Check out the freehand on Gorath’s cloak! They have also posted up Blackpowder’s Buccaneers, which are a smash hit as usual for this painter.

Domitan’s Stormcoven in Celestial Vindicators colors by Peter Vanden Bossche – the teal edge highlights really pop here

Myari painted by Peppe Sollano, with great detail in the face, and quite realistic fabric textures to boot. Check out their Instagram page for some high quality Underworlds paintjobs from many other warbands!

Tres Hyde of the BattleMallet Podcast got an advance copy of the Thricefold Discord, and did magnificent things with them. Check out the gemstones, the fade on the chitinous claws, and the metallic effects. The man’s an artist, that’s for sure, and you have to imagine the Dark Prince would be proud (isn’t he always?)

PilgrimtoNaggaroth painted up the Farstriders as Knights Excelsior with some nice headswaps. White armor is very difficult to get right, but these look really good and the weathering isn’t over the top, another thing that’s difficult to bullseye

Devilsthumb_s posted a very nice Dour Cragan from Khagra’s Ravagers – a Slambo classic with glowing hot weapons and excellent battle damage

Anulian has posted some very dark and atmospheric photos of Helmar the Hewer – just marvelous work on the non-metallic metals here, and I’ll almost always share Sons of Velmorn!

Michael Martin in the AoS Facebook has prepared some static grass covered Steelheart’s Champions as “Stormgrass Eternals”. The overgrown plant effect is really neat and this is a totally fresh take on one of the OG warbands. Interesting stuff!

Garfy Etherington with Tale of Painters has the new Thricefold Discord (and some Ephilim for good measure). That fleshy pale pink is gross, man

Daria Winter with Doomflower Games has painted up the Ironskull’s Boyz (an old favorite of mine) in a bright orange and grey, calling them the Harm Depot. The purple blades on their axes are snazzy.

Quinnjdq has completed Skabbik’s Plaguepack in a striking blue, which is a very different angle than any other I have seen thus far. Some nice red sprinkled in on a few models beaks up the effect, and overall this is just a very well done and innovative take on the warband.

Some bright Chosen Axes by Reverand_Slingshot – very vibrant colors throughout and I love the purple basing. When do you think they’ll release more Fyreslayers? The people thirst for dwarf skin

In a wild conversion, Ontoshkyo has put togerther some “Domitan’s Plaguecoven”. Extensive modification to the models here and some very interesting design choices. The column being levitated even is pus filled!? Some real fever-dream Nurgle business going on here. The acid green is ace too, that’s a hard color to ‘get right’.

Poxlix painted by u/tedsked with some great texture work across the many materials on the model. A muted overall effect, but pick any one piece of the model and just look at how much attention went into it! Excited to see the rest of the warband.

This is only a WIP, but I am blown away by the work on Razek Godblessed’s shield here. Flameon Miniatures cooking up a masterpiece with this one

Sepulchral Guard by Daydam – great shadowed effect and the skulls really pop with some ambient purplish lighting.

Orktober Madmob by Solemn-One – great use of greens on the skin tones to highlight the upper portions of the models, and the scars are well done!

NMM, rust, and regal purple on Thain Fourth-and-Last. What’s not to love? Here’s Helmar in the same style

Excellent work on Skabbik by The-Trapologist, just marvelous blending throughout the model, and the pink smoke really pops here. Check out the water effects on the base!

Dagg3rsB has posted the Storm of Celestus in a crazy good red and black – highlights are pristine. Sleek looking fresh too! But wait, there’s more! The Headsmen’s Curse with incredible weathering was posted this month too

Drizgit Da Squid Herder by u/Devilsthumb_s with some great weathering and a very nice yellow. Good to see an old classic back on the scene.
