Web Highlights from December 2023

This month’s featured warband photo is of Damian Skoczyk’s Slaanesh themed “Dreadspirit Pack” which he took to the World Championships of Warhammer in Atlanta this year. Damian did these conversions himself and had them painted up by Arthur Nicholson, another member of the Vancouver BC team. He then piloted these models to the top 8 in the tournament and brought Glory to the Pacific Northwest. We interviewed him and his teammate Steven on the Underworlds Underground podcast this month as well. Great stuff all around!

The Critical Focus Channel / Tabletop Scania has started a YouTube series on Underworlds lore, which is a pretty under-discussed component of this game. Glad to see if getting the attention it deserves!

The Vietnamese Underworlds community held their own National Championships In June this year in the Nemesis format, with 24 players. It wasn’t reported out until this month. however! Great to see the game flourish the world over. Check out their custom Grand Alliance banners, and the big Shadespire one! We gotta get these in North America.

Cult of Paint is holding their their Miniature Painting Open, and submissions for 2023 are now available to browse. The whole gallery is great, but I’ll link out to people’s Underworlds submissions where they have them available on their personal artist pages.

That’s a wrap for the Cult of Paint entries using Underworlds models (best as I could tell, anyhow). Astounding work by all and there were a huge number of submissions! I’d wager there were nearly as many Underworlds entries as there were Space Marines, speaking to the quality of the miniatures and the dynamism of the sculpts. Bravo!

Stefano Lancioni posted some gorgeous Xandire’s Truthseekers, which have a quite unique stripe motif on the cloth, and a vibrant and realistic OSL NMM coming from Calthia’s lantern. A masterpiece.

Ironskull’s Boyz in a classic Goff scheme by I_Am_Not_Alpharius. The weathering is just perfect with ralistic rust and dust, the subtle conversion on Basha is a great touch, and the freehand checks and dags really tie it all together. Every month I am astounded by this painter, and seeing them putting brush to one of my favorite warbands was a real treat

Hexbane’s Hunters by _meliandrea, which are fantastic and look as though they were done on canvas. Facial scars, closed eyes for better pistol aiming, stripey pants, OSL, this rendition has it all.

Cyreni’s Razors by lady_midday_studio – great underlighting on the squid, and a realistic white on the other models

Sickly pink Thricefold by Lukas Painting is my Freedom

Several older warbands by Dagg3rsB, many with interesting schemes, as well as Stormsire’s Cursebreakers in a separate post

Gorechosen of Dromm by Shrimp_Warlock, who has somehow managed to make white armor look… dark? Gorehulk with the deep red exposed muscle skin is a great choice too, as is BBQ Dadbod’s charred flesh

Steelheart’s Champions in Hallowed Knights colors by reverand_slingshot, really nice work including some lightning weapons

Crisp and light Cyreni’s Razors by Bitter_Confusion_112. Check out Cephanyr’s eyes! Considering redoing mine to match

Jose Olmedo has completed some high contrast Skittershank’s Clawpack in a cool almost comic book style. Check the link for a rotation video!

Enrico Sartori says Hello from Argentina with some Hexbane’s Hunters

Sergio Nunes has posted some catchup pictures of Khagra’s Ravagers and also Hexane’s Hunters. It’s been a minute since we’ve seen his distinctive style and it’s nice to have him back on the scene! He also supposedly slapchopped some Sons of Velmorn (I don’t believe it, way too fancy for that). He also ‘slap chopped’ Elathain’s Soulraid and dang do they look fresh.

Conrad Vilela Lewandowski (The Painting Wooki) did plenty this month, posting the Starblood Stalkers, the Shadeborn, and Gorechosen

Steelheart’s Champions by u/Laam999 in a bright style that’s very clean. Great to see the OG’s make an appearance! They also did up the Eyes of the Nine

Zanchito posted some Drepur’s Wraithcreepers and holy mackerel check out the spectral basing glow

Christmas flavor Skabbik’s Plaguepack by no_ilyalife – look at the metals! And the smoke! and the water! and the robes! Man what a paintjob

Flameon Miniatures continues to chip away at Razek Godblessed, and it’s every bit as incredible as one would expect

The Changers from Ephilim’s Pandaemonium by Tzeentch17 – great basing and I dig the color fades. Pink and green is a cool color scheme as well. Here’s the full warband

Ylthari’s Gardians by Daydam – the copper weapons go really well with the blue skin tones

Thricefold Discord by Arsanar – the claws have a cool blending technique, the sand effect on the basing is neat, and the gang is photographed on a diorama with a fancy Slaanesh icon

Dave Sigur Studio painted up Zarbag’s Gitz with sweet lavender robes, and the squigs look cartoonishly fun. Oldie but a goodie!

Beautifully warpainted Headkrakka’s by Daekir – great highlights and an honestly realistic looking set of orcs

Stunning Grashrak’s Despoilers (a personal favorite!) done by Verne Paints. Look at the skin tones!

Christine Orton has painted up The Dread Pageant and they look suitably dark and deadly

Sara Murray posted a Christmas themed Headsmen’s Curse – the conversions are really neat and the more you look, the more you see. What a great take on this warband.

The BattleMallet crew finished up their advance copy of Daggok’s Stab-Lads, which were done in a pink flesh tone. Gross and scary all at once

Liam O’Flynn dropped a masterpiece on Zarbag’s Gitz, with amazing blends on the squig skin. Great to see the older warbands get some love!

TomPaintnBuild put together a neat Pirate conversion for Prince Duvalle – eyepatch, flintlock pistol and everything

Crazy good purple and blue Cyreni’s Razors by Stuart McQuarrie. The glow on Cephanyr’s eyes and the lantern are great accents, and the jellyfish are extra spooky

Jupiter Rin Minis painted up some icy blue Drepur’s Wraithcreepers, perfect for Deathgorge

Continuing the icy ghost theme, Gemma Louise did up these cool Headsmen’s Curse with frost tufts on the bases
