You may remember Flameon Miniatures, who has been working on a Razek Godblessed for a few months now, and I’ve highlighted the progress in prior community posts. The abso-lutely insane finished model has been posted and is the cover image for this month’s article as I don’t have the vocabulary to adequately describe it. You can also view the full post with multiple angles here, and a video of the mini in rotation here. They’ve finished Dour Cragan some months ago, and have moved on to working on Khagra herself – so excited for what’s to come.
These posts have tended to get pretty long in the last few months, and I want to make it a little easier to access what you’re interested in. I’m going to try and organize things in three major categories from here: Content Creators, Organized Play, and Painting/Hobby. Scroll down to the big ole subheaders below to find the stuff you’re looking for; if you aren’t interested in tournaments, for example, scoot right past them to get to the painted minis photos!
Content Creators
The Austrian Masters was held recently in Vienna, and featured some very interesting Championship play now that the new errata has adjusted people’s expectations of what can be competitive. Check out this final match recorded by Siren Games and be amazed at how well the Sepulchral Guard can do when they don’t even make attacks!
Skyler of What the Hex/The Mortal Realms has started a weekly Live-Deckbuild YouTube stream on Tuesdays at noon Central Standard Time, but if that doesn’t work for you, the videos will be posted after the fact. Here’s the first one he did, where he puts together Sons of Velmorn and Malevolent Masks (I’m swooning) in about an hour, designed to be accessible to newer/less experienced deckbuilders. Stay tuned for more!
Derek Traquair, winner of LVO, has given his thoughts on the Ephilim Force of Frost he piloted on Battlemallet in written form as well as on Path to Glory in audio form. Worth a read if you’re in a competition mindset.
Underworlds Underground, the chillest podcast, also covered LVO and you can hear our amateur takes here or on your podcastapp of choice. For full disclosure I’m a cohost on she show so this is more than a bit of self promotion.
While we’re talking about Grand Clashes, Bryce Martin won himself a Worlds ticket at the Cherokee Open this month. He had actually just written a Love Letter for my post series describing his pairing of Xandire’s Truthseekers and Breakneck Slaughter, which now reads as a deck summary of a tournament winning build! Be on the lookout for upcoming interviews on both the Battlemallet Podcast as well as Path to Glory if you want to hear more about how the tournament itself went down.
For readers of the Sleek’s Bowl blog, Mike and I wanted to share that this month Sleek’s Bowl has merged under the Spent Glory label. He will continue to post on my page and continue to provide the same zany deck ideas and less-common pairing ideas for your jank pleasure, but now all in one place. We both focus on new players and casual enjoyment of the hobby as a whole, so the fit made sense. Click here to see the Sleek’s Bowl tag and read his past articles, as well as a brand new one about Blackpowder’s Buccaneers.
Nick Bayton continues to run Warhammer World clashes, and this month they had 42 players out for a Rivals event. I’m so happy to see the numbers continue to climb and more people become engaged in this wondrous game. Wurmspat even got 5th place going 3-0! With their faction deck! And check out the green glow on the best painted Skabbik’s Plaguepack by Jon Chambers.
Laura, writer of The Magmahold, has recently been working on Hexbane’s Hunters with Malevolent Masks (an interesting pairing since Price of Victory lets you spit out free upgrades). Check out her tournament report here!
Shadeglass Reflections, the narrative YouTube channel, posted a new video this time with Blackpowder’s Buccaneers facing off against Hexbane’s Hunters. I won’t spoil the winner, but the cascading hail of glory tokens at the end was a nice touch
If you’re in the mood for even more Hexbane battle reports, Critical Focus Channel has posted a live game between them witch huntin’ boys and Daggok’s Stab-ladz. It’s a very close fought game, and good to see how the new kids on the block compare to a top meta threat!
CFC has also posted a video describing 11 quick tips for improving your competitive play. Similar to what I have been working on in the Contender Series, but much shorter and in video format if that’s your flavor.
Jon Grant (who recently got a slick new website look) has written his own Love Letter to Lady Harrow’s Mournflight. If you have a love letter of your own to write, send it my way and I’ll add it to my series! See this invitation for more details.
For those with 3D printers, Joerg Sterner has created ‘inspiration bases’ to put your minis on when they become inspired. These free STL files come in multiple base sizes and shapes to fit whichever warband you’re using, and you can pop them onto these bases to wreathe them in golden flames. Pretty cool!
Battlemallet has put out a podcast episode relating to the Malevolent Masks deck, which they have bene having a lot of fun with. Partially inspired by my ‘play what you love’ philosophy, Jason has been taking his Sepulchral Guard out for a spin again with the new deck, and Jerod is giving them try with Velmorn. You can listen in for some ideas if masked skeletons suit your fancy (and why wouldn’t they?)
The Path to Glory gang is back with a continuation of their Nemesis Tier List: put this in your ears
War Unbound, a new way to play the game, was released in a White Dwarf this month. While technically not a ‘community highlight’ since it’s from an official publication, I still want to share it with people since it’s a great way to play a quick and easy card-free version of the game, maybe with somebody new, somebody young, or somebody not as versed in board/card games. Just grab a warband and their fighter cards, and do away with the rest of the cards. This really lowers the barrier to entry and getting your toes wet, and could help you bring some new players into the game after they’re ready to add cards in to the mix.
The Agents of Sigmar youtube channel has posted a new video beginner’s guide, or ‘what you need to know’ in order to start playing the game. It echoes much of my beginner’s and returning players’ articles and is worth a watch and passing along if you have some potential new recruits who might be swayed better by video than text.
Organized Play/Upcoming Events
Check out the Global Events Calendar here: you can filter by country and see what’s happening in your corner of the world. Note this is in GMT so hours may be off for you depending on your time zone.
If you’re interested in trying your hand at a Grand Clash like the one Derek described above, the US Open Series has put its tickets on sale this month! These are official Games Workshop organized and run major events for multiple game systems, all three of which have Underworlds represented this year. Come play with me in Tacoma WA this July 19-21, or you can head to Dallas TX May 17-19, and there will be another in Tampa FL October 11-13. To my understanding, all three events will have “Golden Tickets” to get you a seat at the table for the World Championships of Warhammer this November. I can’t recommend playing in major events enough – they’re so much fun and you get the chance to revel in the hobby with other players from around the world.
Derek Traquair himself is running the Alberta Classic, which will take place on May 4th 2024 in Calgary. This event, like last year, will have THREE Worlds qualifier tickets! Head up north, for glory and a chance at more. I’ve been told (many times now) that “None of y’all ‘Muricans can beat us in ‘BERTA” – can somebody prove him wrong? Pretty please?
Poland will be hosting the World Team Championships again this year, in the Championship format. Check out this link and see if you can’t make your way to Warsaw from May 24-26th!
It’s just a small store tournment, but if you’re in the mood to head to the Pacific Northwest and hang with the Rain City Thunderworlds crew, we will be holding a 3 round best of 3 nemesis event on Sunday, March 17th in honor of St Patrork’s Day. Bring a greenskin warband for extra raffle tickets to win green-themed prizes!
Painting/Hobby
Fantastic rendition of Starblood Stalkers, including a converted Kixi-Taka by honzaskypala. Superb detail on the scales and eyes, my lord
I_am_Not_Alpharius is back with Cyreni’s Razors this month, and holy smokes. You like thermal vent underlighting? Excellent blue to red transitions? Realistic squids? I sure do. Here’s their Thricefold Discord, or should I say ICEfold? the snow bases on these are really something else, and the forehead tattoo on Lascivyr is super well done.
Enrico Sartori of Argentina recently posted this Underworlds diorama that won the Gold Trophy in the Goblins al Agua competition. “The Rescue” features Rippa’s Snarlfangs set out to rescue a poor greenskin from the captivity of Grashrak’s Despoilers – just phenomenal. I won’t attempt describe it in words – it HAS to be seen.
Jonas Færing, the Dark Horse Hero of the Las Vegas Open, has posted close ups of his Blanchitsu style Drepur’s Wraithcreepers. The man used to work for Army Painter and it shows – check the freehand on these minis, just stunning. Here’s The Vicreoy Drepur, The Patrician, and Sire Haqfel and Grodrig the Lance.
Jonas also posted a pale green Mollog with his Mob, and a flawless rendition of Gryselle’s Arenai in the 3rd edition Dark Eldar scheme, and some black armor Crimson Court, as well as his (abolsutely stunning and runner-up in the LVO painting competition) Magore’s Fiends. They came with a display base, which you can see here. He’s been on a tear of photo posting, so he also shared his Starblood Stalkers, with speed paints right out of the pot.
JW Miniatures has completed a jaw-dropping Prince Duvalle with perfect red armor, green marble basing, and the slickest cape fade you’ll ever see.
Hexbane’s Hunters – Khorne Style painted by Onton, which feature extensive conversions and some creative ideas to take these guys to a very personal expression. Check out the Icon of Khorne, the dogs converted to fleshhounds, really everything! The detail and painting skill is top notch too. I assume that they’re still witch hunters, just working for a new boss now.

Blackpowder’s Buccaneers by Vernon Lees – Shreek looks so good I almost forgot how much I hate that lil’ guy. He also posted Drepur’s Wraithcreepers with a nice turqouise ghost effect and tarnished halberds which is a cool touch. Here too are his Sepulchral Guard in purple (a classic)

The Shadeborn by Astul89 – the paintjob is fantastic, but I’m even more impressed by the photography

Vibrant Shadeborn by Kyril Kalinov. They also did up some Gnarlspirit with subtle but cool conversions
Severin Steelheart by MadStudio – like the box art, only better. Here’s the complete Steelheart’s Champions, and the eyebrows be on fleek, as the kids say (Said? No idea if that’s still a thing)
Must be Profiteer month! Some “Kharadron Necrons” by epyoncf
Jon Grant has been a busy bee, and has posted Ennias Curse-born, Cephanyr, and Krowch’t and Skulck this month. He’s a got a unique style and great photo staging, and continues to impress me.
Bretonnian-themed Sons of Velmorn by cavaliersi, does it get any better than this?
Rastus the Charmed with a headswap by adrock404 – fancy OSL, NMM and gemstone effects. The jungle base is a nice touch too!
Classic vampire Duvalle by Royal-Simian – check out the blood dribble, and the perfect hair.
Sergio Nunes is back this month with another banger – check out these Plaguepack in white. He’s got just the right amount of underlighting, and just look at that crystal on the staff, my lord

Javier Lozano has done some excellent off-white Domitan’s Stormcoven – here’s the full warband, and here are the three individual fighters. Same store with Xandire’s Truthseekers, featuring purple cloaks and beautiful blue flowers on the bases. Warband group shot, and the three stormcast closeups.
A Myari WIP by Jonathan Devos, which is already too good not to share
Dave Sigur Studio posted the Gnarlspirit Pack with a realistic tone
Campbell McLaughlin, AKA Crumbo McUnderpants, AKA one of the two cohosts of the 40KBadcast and all around funny guy has recently posted the Crimson Court in a black and green scheme. I never posted up his older stuff, but it’s worth checking out last month’s post featuring Xandire’s Truthseekers, which match his Domitan’s Stormcoven from earlier last year. Give it a looksee! He has a very evocative style.
Miscellaneous
It’s a little goofy, but Filip Karwowski has posted a Legofigurine rendition of Hexbane’s Hunters
Not a painted mini or anything, but I believe I’ve found a photo of Moonface Nagz’s great-great grandfather
