This month’s featured paintjob is this crazy cool rendition of Myari’s Purifiers by Brian Faulhaber of What the Hex. He took the four fighter warband with a focus on channeling the elements, and swung that into a four nations of Avatar: The Last Airbender homage and it is just phenomenal. The head swap on Myari to make the airbender, the details on each that really speak to the show itself. Crossovers are always fun and this one is brilliantly executed by a stellar painter.
These posts have tended to get pretty long in the last few months, and I want to make it a little easier to access what you’re interested in. I’m going to try and organize things in three major categories from here: Content Creators, Organized Play, and Painting/Hobby. Jon Grant shares his excitement for the new Rivals of the Mirrored City release, bringing back four older warbands with proper Rivals Decks and rereleasing previously out of print warbands. He also talks about how this should bring optimism to us as a community, and that it’s a very positive sign for the future of the game and support from Games Workshop – and I wholeheartedly agree.
The What the Hex Podcast released an audio battle report and analysis of a contest between Domitan’s Stormcoven with Force of Frost and Lady Harrow’s Mournflight with Malevolent Masks to test out the new deck against a top meta threat. No spoilers, but these masks continue to surprise me with how good they can be if you get your seed glory rolling.
Battlmallet made a blog post discussing the utility of magnifying glasses for painting miniatures, which included some goofy headshots of painters in their discord. I snuck in even though I don’t own any.
Battlemallet also wrote up a deck guide for the Sons of Velmorn with Malevolent Masks called Velmorn’s Visages
The Agents of Sigmar are working on a Grymwatch/Batman crossover, with Robin as the crypt ghouls in various forms. Unique stuff, and excited to see how it all pans out!

TwelveSmallHats has updated their Warhammer Underworlds Card Lore database, which included flavor text and quotes from the cards themselves. A huge undertaking that really fleshes out the background for this game! Amazingly they have also added Wintermaw content already.
The Wintermaw box has been teased now at the Adepticon Preview, and while most of us are busy talking about which warband looks cooler and what rivals decks we might expect, Flavius is back at his board analysis again. Stunning how quickly he knows what to do with each just from some screengrabs from promo material. Read here to see how the new board sides are shaping up!
Skyler from What the Hex/The Mortal Realms has continued to work on his weekly series “What the Decks”, where he takes an hour and change to live build a Nemesis Deck and take a warband pairing ‘from lunch box to deck box’. Here’s a cool one pairing the newly updated Thorns of the Briar Queen with the Paths of Prophecy deck to make use of their great action economy to push Chainrasps onto Objective Tokens and hold all day long. Great deckbuilding primer for newer players, and a glimpse into a great competitive player’s mind as well.
Organized Play/Upcoming Events
Rumble in the Rockies happened at the beginning of March, with David Lancaster (Beardarm for you Vassalites) taking the Golden Ticket with Hexbane’s Hunters, a warband that continues to shine. HH with VCT was also third place (shoutout PNW hero Andy Yeh), and stunningly Ephilim’s Pandaemonium just missed the podium.
THE CLÄSH was held in Stuttgart Germany this month, and was the biggest German event of the past year. Check out the R77 writeup of the Best of Three Nemesis event.
WHU Nordics in Stockholm, Sweden wrapped up this month. 28 combatants, bringing a total of 20 unique warbands, entered the arena in 6 best-of-1 Nemesis matches, to determine who is most worthy of a Golden Ticket to the World Championships of Warhammer and the shadeglass trophy of the Nordics. In the end it was Karol Kolański taking the glass using Crimson Court.

What the Hex held a Championship Format one-dayer at Adepticon, and Honza Skýpala came away with the glass using Sepulchral Guard
He also won the best painted in the Nemesis Grand Clash with his Starblood Stalkers – hugely successful over the weekend!
Adepticon held a major Grand Clash with a Golden Ticket to Worlds the weekend of 3/23-24, and George “Kyros” Athanail came away the winner with The Headsmen’s Curse using Deadly Depths. A fitting sendoff for the deck which is soon to rotate out, nd a statement win for a warband George has long said was a great counter-meta pick. He had to go through a Force of Frost Ephilim in the final to do it, proving his point, and it’s great to see such a good guy make his way to the world championships this year.

If you like the Championship Format (and can speak a little Polish, or at least pantomime a bit) head on over to Poznan, Poland on 13-14 April for a two-day Championship-format event. There are already 50 players signed up and the organizers have a goal of making it the biggest Championship format event this year. Those of you who dream of taking a shot at the Warhammer World Champion title should take note: the event has the Qualifier status with three Worlds tickets assigned. UPDATE – now it’s FIVE TICKETS! The Polish scene has been huge for years and I’m glad to se they’ll get plenty of opportunity to show the world how skilled they all are at Worlds this year.
If you missed out on Alberta’s Rumble in the Rockies this month, there’s still time to head to the great white north and enter the Alberta Classic! May 4th in Calgary AB will be a huge four round Nemesis event with three Worlds qualifier tickets and loads of prize support. Stick around afterward for a 5 round Rivals skirmish on May 5th. I have a promise to American readers – Podium in this event, displacing a Canadian from Worlds, and I will post your tournament writeup with all the stars and stripes I can muster.
The World Team Championships (WTC) in Warsaw, Poland will be held May 24-26. High level play with a big tournout expected, worth attending for anyone in Europe or those willing to hop across the pond
Registration for the NOVA Open is now live! The Washington, DC Area convention runs Labor Day weekend (Aug 28 – Sept 1), and there is a one-day Underworlds GT event on Sunday 9/1. Tickets for the Underworlds Clash start at $40 (though you’ll have to add on a convention pass for however many days you plan to attend), with up to 64 spots! Go meet the Battle Mallet crew!
The US Open Series has put its tickets on sale this month! These are official Games Workshop organized and run major events for multiple game systems, all three of which have Underworlds represented this year. Come play with me in Tacoma WA this July 19-21, or you can head to Dallas TX May 17-19, and there will be another in Tampa FL October 11-13. To my understanding, all three events will have “Golden Tickets” to get you a seat at the table for the World Championships of Warhammer this November. I can’t recommend playing in major events enough – they’re so much fun and you get the chance to revel in the hobby with other players from around the world
Painting/Hobby
“Starry Nighthaunt” by AllIdeas featuring Lady Harrow’s Mournflight painted as the canvas for Vincent van Gough’s Starry Night. Really cool concept and execution.
Tres Hyde from the Battle Mallet team got advance copies of both the Brethren of the Bolt and the Skinnerkin, and LAWD HAMMERCY look at those paintjobs. The lightning on the zappy boys is phenomenal, and the meat textures on the skinnerkin are, uh, believable. Home run pulled off in a remarkably short window.
The Sepulchral Warden in a Scottish theme by danmfitton – Tartan patterned cloak and straps, with a custom-made little highlander hat for him. And the Scots flag on the shield is a nice touch too! Fun conversion.
Garrek’s Reavers, the Original Gangstas, have a fresh coat of paint applied by Shrimp_Warlock. Check out the molten hot, fresh from the forge weaponry.
Flaviuz of The Monkey’s Hex has posted new paintjobs for Lady Harrow’s Mournflight (complete with the glass they won recently) and the Sons of Velmorn in a green theme in honor of Asterix
A great rusty sword on the Sharpener of the Blade, with blue sparks arcing from the whetstone by Nrmpaint – a how-to pdf is available for anyone who wants to be their patron, but cool to see the box art come to life on a model like this.
Myari’s Purifiers in a sparkling white by David Roberts of Dave Paints. Check out the eyes on that scryowl! He also has a gorgeous Thricefold Discord posted this month with beautiful smooth transitions on the purple and cream. And these Wurmspat… have eyeballs in all the wrong places. Stunning work to be honest.

Etienne Olieu shared the full Skittershank’s Clawpack, expanding on the leader model posted last month, and also a really cool Vexmor with a nice sketchy style, and the full thricefold warband here. They also posted the Stab-Ladz in a deep green with excellent patina on the metals
David Lavictoire spent the month putting together multiple undead warbands; check out the experimentation with skin tones here! Cool stuff. The Sons of Velmorn are especially good
Kyril Kalinov has a new set of Skittershank’s Clawpack for you to look at, this time with a very ‘ninja-rat’ aesthetic. I can hear the TMNT song in my head as I type this.
