June’s featured paintjob is this mind-blowing diorama of Ephilim’s Pandaemonium on a textured, eye-studded base by Ladislav Majer (@lacikmaj). You get the feel of glistening wet surfaces, exposed muscle, and just top notch texture work all over the warband. Content Creators

The second Pink Slips match video has been published over at Shadeglass Reflections – this contest is a running high-stakes battle between the Best Coast and the Mid(west), where the winner takes their opponent’s painted warband and faction deck home with them. This round, we saw Thomas/Saxthom of Underworlds Underground bring his Breakneck Domitan’s Stormcoven to face Skyler/OmniOps of What the Hex who took Headkrakka’s Fortkrakkas. It’s a tight set of games with all the tension and high level play you got in the inaugural LVO match, and I promise it’s worth the 2.5 hour runtime.

What the Hex has released a podcast episode titled Deathgorge Deck Forge. The episode focuses on the Rivals Decks released in Deathgorge and when and how to use them (as well as Paths of Prophecy), but also contains lots of other good stuff in there like a league format and is just generally a good listen.

Check out this cool new tool by Squrl they’re calling Charge2Win which helps you ‘find your next warband’. This can be really helpful for looking to explore what’s available and what firs your style – you can filter by the warbands’ basic stats and attributes and then learn a little bit more about each. The goal is to ultimately also surface deeper strategic information about each warband here as well in future versions.

M2on2 continues to make underworlds videos for YouTube, and has more than 30 Wintermaw things to peruse!

Iba’s Underworlds is a German language YouTube channel that has recently released their “Rivals Deck Tierlist” giving their relative ranking for each Universal Rivals deck. Tier lists are always good for debate, give it a look!

Random Wargamer continues to post battle reports, check out this one between Garrek’s Reavers, the OG’s, taking on Drepur’s Wraitcreepers.

Jon Grant’s hobby blog posted the June update with multiple great paint shots and some speculation about what’s to come for underworlds

Critical Focus Channel continues to make good YouTube content (their pace is just incredible) – here’s a cool deck review featuring Khagra’s Ravagers with Tooth and Claw, a pairing that’s quite near and dear to my heart.

Bacon’s Bits on Path to Glory continues apace, this month publishing an article about how to play mind games and up your competitive edge. High-level tournament stuff for those interested.

On Path to Glory’s Podcast side, the Nemesis Tierlist continued this month – here’s part 4 as well as a revisit for the Rivals of the Mirrored City pack. Excellent overview of the warbands and their current place in the competitive meta at the moment.

And Finally, Agents of Sigmar have posted a video about how best to use the Sepulchral Guard, which is great for new players who have the starter box and for veterans who are looking to improve their Hold Objective game

Events/Organized Play

It was covered to an extent in this Love letter by Anders, but he won the 26-player Copenhagen Clash using the Wurmspat of all things! You can see the deck guide he wrote for Battle Mallet here, as well as listen to a phenomenal interview by Davy of What the Hex here. Big putrid splash for Anders and this old neglected warband who has seen new life bloom with Rimewyrm’s Bite.

Nick Bayton ran a Rivals Clash at Warhammer World with 40 participants! Dan Davies Mendoza took top spot with Da Kunnin Krew using Voidcursed Thralls – lots of potential movement tricks to exploit there. Check out this link for standings and results.

The WHW team also put on a Nemesis Clash which was taken by Dan Knight and the Skinnerkin with Rimewyrm’s Bite, winning out over 30 players total! Interesting pairing I haven’t considered prior to this.

The Madtown Throwdown Q2 2024 went down on June 8 in Madison WI, and the winner was Wellner with Gryselle’s Arenai paired with Voidcursed Thralls! One of my favorite warbands, using a totally bonkers pairing idea, and it came out on top. Great work.

Stockholm, Sweden saw a Nemesis+ best of two tournament, where players could combine two universal rivals decks rather than just 1. An interesting play format that opens up loads of new potentials as almost a hybrid Championship style. Check out this livestream where Love Elkund took the event with Hexbane’s Hunters.

A Worlds Qualifier event in Poznan, Poland was held this month that was also part of the Polish WHU League series. Poznan Championships gathered 26 players for a 4xBo3 Nemesis event. Represented were 18 different warbands and no Domitans or Ephilims! The winner was Rippa’s Snarflangs + Tooth and Claw, and you can view the decklists and more details here.

The Czech League tournament happened this month, featuring 23 players. The tournament was won by Vojta Kubičina, who remained the only player having 5 wins at the end. He played Elathan’s Soulraid, but handed the ticket to Worlds down to Michael K from Vienna gang.

Straight Outta Shadespire is back after a long hiatus, hosting the Netherlands’ first real tournament since lockdown! Kevin VR took the event with Hexbane’s Hunters

The Game Con Canada Warhammer Underworlds Clash was played to a dramatic end; with 10 competitors, Benjamin Duff took to trophy and the first qualifier ticket with his Parasite-ridden Gnarlspirit Pack. It came down to the last match against Albert Andersen with his Domitan Seismic Shock pairing. Albert eventually took second place, which considering that he had never played in a competitive event before was pretty darn impressive.

The Alberta Classic happened this month, and it was a real hit! Multiple Worlds tickets went out – there will be an Underworlds Underground podcast about it soon but, uh, the computer we use to edit the recordings broke and it’s taking a minute. Coming soon, I promise!

UPCOMING

The Goonhammer Open will be held July 6th and 7th at the Sheraton Baltimore Washington Airport in Linthicum and for the first time ever, they will be holding an Underworlds event! The plan is for a 12 person one-day Nemesis event that will have a ticket to Worlds on the line. More details and a comp packet to come. If you’re able to attend please do – Goonhammer is a huge online presence in the warhammer hobby with effectively no Underworlds involvement up to this point, and it would be great to show them support in turn for supporting our game – who knows what growth we could see as a community with their reach?

Tickets are still available to the Tacoma Open Grand Clash, hosted by Games Workshop in Tacoma WA. I’ll be there with a few of my locals and expect several repeat players this time around (Kevin, if you’re reading, we HAVE to play again). I have stickers to give away, and if you’re lucky you’ll come away with a ticket to worlds while you crush me in this two-dayer Nemesis event.

The next Madtown Throwdown on August 17th in Madison WI will have a ticket to worlds on the line! Three rounds of best-of-three nemesis action – don’t miss it if you’re nearby. Meet the WtH crew!

The NOVA Open in the Lesser Washington (DC) will be held August 28-September 1st, and will have an Underworlds Grand Clash! go to www.novaopen.com and get your tickets to hang out with the crowd that will include lots of big competitive names from the US East coast including people from Battlemallet and Path to Glory. Should be a good time!

Painting/Hobby

Amazing detail on the poster boy Severin Steelheart by Cesar Pirino from Marseille, France and really looks like the kind of thing you’d find in a French museum in the Renaissance section

Brethren of the Bolt by Peppe Solano, which have a nifty ice-blue underglow and some seafoam shadow highlights, which really elevate the effect on the warband. Looks like they’re actually in an ice cave!

Months ago I featured Manel Parellada of MP_Miniatures and their WIP on a cool headswap for Bridget of Hexbane’s Hunters. I totally missed the finished project! Check out this full witch hunting party for Mordheim which includes Silent Pock with a candle rack on his head, Aemos wearing a witch hat he presumably took off a corpse, and more. Great work on the black armor.

Still working through Manel Parellada’s backlog, they also posted up Several Looncourt characters in February, repurposed for The Old World on square bases. Grinkrak is on top of a giant spider howdah, Moonface Nagz, Snorbo, and Pointy Burk lead infantry blocks, and Grib hoists a huge Night Goblin flag.

Holy Toledo! These Wurmspat are knock-your-socks-off good, painted by SteamPaintStudio out of Warsaw and won Silver at the Kontrast contest. Apparently took about 240 hours of work and I believe it!

Katarzyna Gutowska of Lady Midday Studio finished two warbands this month: Daggok’s Stab-Ladz with cool leather work and solid skin, and Zondara’s Gravebreakers in some very poppy blue and great directional lighting

Glenn Strömberg has painted up the Skinnerkin with some conversions that are positively Blanchitsu. Just hideous!

Incredible photography on the Dread Pageant and Myari’s Purifiers by Rubicantay which features shiny gems, very stylized NMM, and weathering to die for. Great stuff.

Sergio Nunes continued to bust out top quality very quickly! Here are the Gnarlspirit Pack with incredibly realistic textures on the clothing and armor. They also posted Zondara’s Gravebreakers (featuring a green Ferlain, reminds me of Blanca from Street Fighter), and Daggok’s Stab-Ladz in a nice ice blue. They just won’t stop, also posting Skittershank’s Clawpack!
