Featured this month is a stunning diorama depicting Cyreni of the Abyss riding atop a behemoth Manta, created by Liam Hopkins. It’s every bit as awesome as I had hoped. Surfing on a giant beast with glossy scales over realistic waves teeming with lesser monsters – what more could you ask for?

The biggest news of the month is the Balance Update That just dropped at the end of May. In impressively rapid time, we already have a few breakdowns and reviews of what it might mean for us all. Here’s who had theirs done in the first few days:

PODCASTS

Battle Mallet has posted up their beginner-friendly content preview episode, with this rendition focusing on Realmstone Raiders and Knives of the Crone. Hilariously titled Hex Ed: Realmstone Onion – A Knives Out Mystery, you could do worse getting to grips with the newest releases

What the Hex has one of their live deckbuilds posted for this month, where the gang puts together a Nemesis deck for Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz using Pillage and Plunder with the new Realmstone Raiders deck. A lot of interesting theory and insight into the Raiders that’s worth checking out for Nemesis players out there.

Path to Glory 181 is an episode about everybody’s favorite topic – Competitive Tier Lists! Mark and George talk about the bottom ‘C tier’ warbands and discuss their thoughts on why these teams are low on the list, what holds them back, and how to maximize them if that’s your goal. They, of course, were immediately followed by the Balance Update so some of these takes will probably be revised, but still a solid listen

A brand new channel has spun up some Underworlds content this month! Fingers Fumbs and Fits has a few unboxing videos but more excitingly they have launched a “Contest Aethyrmatika” in which randomly drawn warband pairings will face off in a bracket style tournament. Keep your eyes on this channel as the tourney unfolds!

Critical Focus Channel has a Skaven-off with randomized deck and warband pairings, which is a pretty cool battle report concept!

Agents of Sigmar has posted reviews of the newest warband: Knives of the Crone as well as the newest deck Realmstone Raiders. Robin and Pete always have an accessible and entertaining approach to content previews, and this month was no exception.

BLOGS

Jon Grant Miniatures has a new logo (which is pretty sick) and also has posted up a guide to choosing a warband for a tournament. He works through his process and it could be helpful for you if choosing what team to play is something you get stuck on

Staggerers has another one of their special ‘Dexamples’ articles, showing Realmstone Raiders paired with every possible deck combination as a jumping off point for whatever you’d like to build. Cool concept and I’m glad it’s continuing! I’m trying out their Khagra ES/RR deck with a few modifications tonight.

Staggerers also has continued their ‘kill priority’ series, this time focusing on who to take down first in each Chaos warband.

Borni from Path to Glory/the stats project put out another Nemesis Statistics report, which included breakdowns of podium count for different warbands and decks, as well as overall win rates across various game levels of competition. He closes with an analysis of the meta as it currently stands, and suggestions for balanced updates in the future. Worth a read for competitive players! (note this was prior to the actual balance update)

Borni also wrote up his opinions on the current (now old!!) ruleset and state of the game – what’s good, shrug, and ug(ly)

The Mortal Realms blog continues with the Step by Step overview of prepping for a grand clash – Zach deconstructs the choices made across building out a deck for Headman’s Curse.

Set the Tempo has posted up a Counterplay article discussing which objectives are worth playing around and focusing on depending on the deck your opponent is taking.

Events/Organized Play

The Canadian Tabletop Championships happened May 24-25, and in a completely unexpected turn of event it was won by Ruben Greeff with Thorns of the Briar Queen with Edge of the Knife! Cool to see a (literal) Dark Horse take a big event and win a ticket to worlds, and keep your eyes on Spent Glory for an upcoming tournament report penned by Ruben himself.

The Alberta Classic went down in Calgary on May 3rd, where Matt from Set the Tempo was able to grab his Golden Ticket with the Thricefold Discord. Good to see old champs still have game! This page also featured guest articles from Sam giving a new player perspective, as well as from Ben discussing what to do when you take several losses in a tournament

The US Open series kicked off in Dallas, where Aman from Path to Glory took the gold with Zarbag’s Gitz PP/CtC, representing continued success from the game’s most famous competitor.

The Czech League held a tournament this month as well, as Ironsoul’s Blazing Edge took the undefeated win with a deck quite similar to Dan Knight’s rendition. Glad to see this innovation continue to succeed!

UPCOMING

15 June 2025 in the Netherlands will see the Benelux Clash put on by Straight Outta Shadespire and the Rotterdam White Scars, and it carries a Golden Ticket!

June 21st will be THE CLÄSH in Stuttgart Germany which should be a pretty well attended event run by Borni of the Stats Project. If you’re in Europe, register by June 15th for some fun best of 1 gaming over 5 rounds! BCP link here, and Players Packet here

June 28th will have an Agents of Sigmar clash in Redhill UK, which look to always be a fun time – and this one has a Golden Ticket as well. Here’s the event link!

July 6th will feature the Goonhammer Open in Maryland and will be run by Jake of Starting Hex. Register here and have some fun, and maybe even take home a Golden Ticket! BCP link here as well.

July 19-20 will be the Tacoma Open, where you can fight for a Golden Ticket, meet me and some of my locals, get some TacO themed socks, and hang out for a weekend of good times in the Pacific Northwest.

August 30-31 is the NOVA Open in Washington, DC, and will feature a 2-day Nemesis event (and a Sunday Skirmish for those not qualifying for Top Cut). Check it out, and party with the Battle Mallet squad while you’re at it!

October 18th, George/Kyros of Path to Glory is hosting the NYO WHU event with a Golden Ticket on the line in New York USA. Grab your ticket here!

Some really gross Grandfather’s Gardeners in pink human flesh tones by Honza Skýpala. Disgusting but enthralling all the same. Love the hairy bug!

Tiev posted some Thundrik’s Profiteers in striking colored metallics – way to make them grungy yet bright all at once! Their Emberwatch have been posted as well and I absolutely love the muted tones and use of fuchsia.

Sons of Velmorn by Young Song with a cool digital photo backdrop, like they’re still chilling in the Gnarlwood. Will they ever find their way out and down into Embergard? (GW, please?)

Ylthari’s Guardians with deepwoods pagan monster style bone heads, blooding forms, and a generally terrifying feel. Nice work from Nico Grand!

The Prince of Dust in awesome NMM and very well-shaded bone by Mike Mikłowski-Paszek

Killer Ephilim’s Pandaemonium by Beardnash with very smooth blending and great photography. I especially like how spooky Apo’trax the Starefysh looks!

Fully NMM Emberwatch by Jay_Pi94 with some really popping colors

Ironsoul’s Condemnors with onyx pauldrons and what is arguably human skin robes. Spooky stuff from Mortighaar Minis all atop white armor which is an impressive feat

Very fancy Gorath the Enforcer diorama by WHPainterDude. I like the blue scheme – very different from the usual Crimson Court!

Hector Olivar shared a cool OSL Xandire plumbing the depths of Harrowdeep, as well as a really well done Kixi-Taka where the basing foliage is next level.

Mollog and the homies painted up by jtv123 – very nice highlighting and the purple-blue fade into the basing on Stalagsquig is something special

Zarbag’s Gitz by 61 painting with the classic orcs and goblins checker pattern. There’s more: Proxy Jaws of Itzl using some alternate old-school lizardmen minis. They also posted some butt-kicking Thundriks in red with awesome lighting

Hexbane’s Hunters in an awesome Sin City black/white/red scheme by RougeRaxxa. Bonus points for the custom hat on Brydget!

Jon Grant is cranking through warbands, this month with Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz as well as some dark Jaws of Itzl.

Dan Knight has posted up some white armored Crimson Court, including a bestial headswap with the Carnskyr’s bat face on Ennias. Cool way to make a limited palette pop!

Frosty basing on Spiteclaw’s Swarm by Dagg3rsB with a very complimentary Blue and Rust scheme

Grandfather’s Gardeners in an almost ninja turtles color scheme – love the green on purple. Solid stuff from Matoya12!

Mollog in fluorescent tones by Scotty of Studio 489 – awesome effect!

Starblood Stalkers by mroz4 in excellent detail with bonuses on the basing – high skill stuff and great so see an old classic!

Technicolor Dread Pageant by HriMiller with awesome transitions between the yellow-orange and teal sections – highlighted to perfection

The Headsmen’s Curse painted up by The Sethsquatch, which features some great but subtle brown highlights on the robes and a cool purple energy glow on the sword itself

Miscellaneous

Andrew Judd has completed their 360 scenery for some cinematic games of Embergard. Cool idea!

Richard Heaven has created some Sons of Velmorn proxy cards using the cursed City miniatures. Considering how hard it is to get a copy of the Sons of Velmorn these days, this might make some people’s collecting impulse a little easier to satisfy.
