Jon Grant Miniatures has an inspiring and heartfelt piece on “Playing to win, but not how you think” which touches on his journey to bring lower performing warbands up in the standings rather than grinding out top-meta practice to nab as many trophies as possible. There are many ways to have fun while competing!

Staggerers cover the major changes in the new Rules update document and what it means for competitive play. They also have cooked up a Dexamples showing some decks you can try for every combo (even double plots!) with Deadly Synergy

Staggerers have also launched a new series: Misrecarded, which addresses underutilized cards and explains why you should reconsider whether they’re actually ‘bad’. The first installment focuses on “The End is Nigh”, a card I have personally never used, even in Rivals. Cool concept! It also happens to be their 50th post, which is an awesome milestone. They shortly thereafter posted a second one on Scream of Anger from Blazing Assault. Glad to have these guys in the community.

Events/Organized Play

October 4th was the next Agents of Sigmar Nemesis Tournament at Willen games in the UK. Here’s a write up from Jon Grant, the eventual second place finisher using Blackpowder’s Buccaneers and BA/CC

October 4th-5th was the Czech Major 2025 in Prague, which was a Nemesis best of 3 event. Here’s the stream from the 7th round, which as best as I can tell shows Gitz beating Jaws pretty handily

October 18th, George/Kyros of Path to Glory hosted the NYO WHU event with a Golden Ticket on the line in New York USA. The event was held with the 16 re-releasedwarbands but not the Spitewood ones, and was pre-rules update, so results may not hold. However, 1st place went to Gitz Pillage/Cata (no surprise there), Second was BA/CC Wurmspat, and Third was Soulraid with ES/PP.

UPCOMING

November 6-9th is the World Championships of Warhammer in Atlanta, GA. They were dumb enough to let me commentate last year, and they fell for it again when they offered me a competitor’s ticket after Tacoma. Phil from What the Hex?! will have livestreamed coverage again (with Jarod from Battle Mallet alongside) on The Mortal Realms Youtube Channel, so tune in for some live games and get some early looks at Spitewood in action.

SPIEL Essen has concluded this month with Golden Daemon entries posted. There were two standouts that included Underworlds minis:

Aksel Olsson of AxeFacePaints won gold in the AoS unit category, putting together a ridiculously well blended Flesh Eater Courts group that had four members of the Grymwatch included.

And in the Open Category, a mini I have shared before – Cyreni on the back of a massive Manta by Liam Hopkins took Silver.
