Hey gang! I’m back in business with some low-effort and ultimately worthless content for you all. I ran an article recently covering my predictions of what Grand-Alliance only/First Edition warbands might actually get updated, and it got a lot of engagement and response. Whether or not any of that comes true down the line, it got people talking. That’s always fun!

In addition, I was playing a few games with my Farstriders recently (Try RF/Edge! It’s a blast!) and realized that I couldn’t recall a single instance of them appearing on any card. As they were old-style BabyCast, that wasn’t super surprising – we saw in the last article that none of those show up anywhere and there’s very little chance GW would ever release a new one/bring back one that was left in the dust. However, these guys are already in the game with a bespoke warscroll, yet they didn’t feature at all.

Some of our classic 13 have already been re-released in Spitewood 4-packs per Grand Alliance: Zarbag’s Gitz, Mollog’s Mob, Skinnerkin, Thorns of the Briar Queen, and the Thricefold Discord. That means there are 8 warbands that are competition legal, yet still live in the online-only semi-legit space.
Some of these have had significant Rules Update/FAQ/Errata changes which sort of bridge that gap, but some haven’t. Even if they have gotten a glow-up like Spiteclaw’s Swarr and Zondara did, they may still be hard to find/buy and it could be cool to see them come back out down the line. But which ones actually will?
Since it was relatively easy to run through the card pictures and check out what fighters/warbands are featured, I figured I would do it again, this time focusing on the ‘classic 13’/online-only warbands that came out in the year before Embergard.
The Count
Daggok’ Stab-Ladz: 7 (2 in Nexus of Power, 1 in Pillage and Plunder, 3 in Emberstone Sentinels, 1 in Blazing Assault)
Cyreni’s Razors: 6 (2 in Hunting Grounds, 1 in Raging Slayers, 1 in Wrack and Ruin, 2 in Blazing Assault)
Zondara’s Gravebreakers: 3 (2 in Countdown to Cataclysm, 1 in Pillage and Plunder)
Sepulchral Guard: 2 (1 in Edge of the Knife, 1 in Reckless Fury)
Brethren of the Bolt: 1 (1 in Reckless Fury)
Spiteclaw’s Swarm: 1 (1 in Deadly Synergy)
The Farstriders: ZERO
Ironsoul’s Condemnors: ZERO
Conclusions

Daggok Finksteala and his Stab Ladz came in first place with seven entries including two in the most recent deck. This tells us they’re still finkin about the ladz. Additionally, their warscroll is hot garbage and they have never received any errata/FaQ attention aside from changing Daggok’s weapon to melee instead of ranged as appropriate for a day 1 fix. If we see a classic 13 member refreshed, I’d put my money on them.

In second place, Cyreni’s Razors showed up with 6 cards in decks that span the length of the edition. Since they’re gorgeous, have a cool and unique ability, and probably could use the stat boost that comes with a refresh of fighter cards, I’d love to see them reworked. They also have seen no attention in FaQ/Errata so they have plenty of potential for warscroll changes too.

Third was Zondara’s Gravebreakers, but I’m less sold on them being redone. They just had an update to their warscroll that puts them in a good spot. Their 3 cards are all from the core box, so no designer eyeballs may have been on them since. Additionally, the models really don’t fit into an AoS army super well, as Ferlain has no unit type to slot into.

In fourth was Sepulchral Guard. While this is an amazing set of skeletons, GW’s design for boney boys has evolved a bit and they don’t quite slot into AoS as well anymore. They only saw 2 cards which isn’t a lot (and both of them are really bad cards too). Their warscroll also got a rules update rework so there’s less pressure to update it, though I’d argue it’s still really, really bad and they need some love. I recently lost all 7 fighters in 7 activations playing Sepulchral Guard, and surely that doesn’t color my perceptions whatsoever.

Brethren of the Bolt had a whole one card, which can’t lend a lot of support to them getting updated. Their warscroll saw a boost when the ‘persisting warscroll abilities’ thing got changed to accommodate Borgit, but it wasn’t a direct update to them specifically. This could mean they have been entirely forgotten, or it could mean they’re ripe for an update. They don’t fit into the new Cities of Sigmar line very well though, so I’m betting against them.

Spiteclaw’s Swarm also had only 1 card. The warband just had an interesting rework in the last rules update and they’re legitimately good now – they don’t NEED to be re-released for that reason, though they’re cool models if again a little out of date for the new skaven line. I’m going to guess probably no, at least right now.

Zero cards for either of our remaining Stormcast warbands. ThiccMarines are still most definitely out of style, so no Ironsoul or Farstriders are likely to ever be coming. While it’s a bummer, it’s not a surprise.
