[…] Rivals deck pairings to consider for the Dread Pageant include Countdown to Cataclysm and Wrack and Ruin, as both offer ways to damage multiple fighters on either team and help you both inspire and gain access to warscroll abilities. Blazing Assault can also help you get into the mix and start putting that damage out, and Reckless Fury can force the opponent to charge you to an extent, so they can’t help but risk hurting you too. I took this Wrack/Countdown deck to LVO, and it got second place in the Grand Clash. […]

Sorry but I’m a little confused! So would be great if you could clarify one little thing for me. I don’t think a card called No Safe Ground exists but you reference that card as losing you the game vs Andrew in game 3 of the final, I’ve looked at both the decklists for the decks but can’t find anything, there is unsafe ground but that only triggers if your warband deals damage to an enemy fighter so I’m a little unsure how it was scored with total collapsing his own guy? Please enlighten me because I play both Dread Pagaent and Zikkit and I like these decks as well!

Thanks for the write up I found it very interesting 🙂

Hi! Thanks for the kind words.

I’ll admit I wrote his a few days after it happened, and the game happened at the end of a very long weekend so my memory isn’t perfect. For starters yeah, the name of the card is Unsafe Ground – looks like I misremembered it! Even named the article after the wrong card name lol, I’m a great proofreader.

As written yes the card only scores if you damage an enemy. It’s totally possible he did not score the card and I in my ‘oh dang he got me good’ delerium I just assumed he scored everything possible all at once. That’s on me misremembering and I’m not accusing Andrew of cheating! He wins that game whether he scores that card or not in that situation so it didn’t make a difference either way but in full transparency I don’t recall exactly how it went down.

Let me know how it goes for you out there with these warbands/decks – glad you are having fun with them!

I wasn’t accusing anyone of cheating! I was just checking I hadn’t missed something X)

I’m honestly having a terrible time with Zikkit lol, played five games with them so far and lost 4 (all against the emberwatch apparently my local meta is just full of them) and the last a comfortable win against grandfathers gardeners, im feeling pretty disheartened with them, the models are cool and I like the warband but im not gonna keep getting stomped by Stormcast because its not fun X) My win rate with other warbands into them is just fine, I think my Dread Pagent are undefeated against them so far after about 4 or 5 games, so if feels like an issue with the warband rather than an issue with me? (if you could text Andrew and ask if thats one of his hard matchups and let me know what he says it would make me feel a little better :P)

Dread Pagaent are back out next week as everyones determined to play Stormcast lol, I’ve missed Vasillac just cutting through them. Against really aggressive, teleporty warbands like the Emberwatch, what is the best way to protect Vasillac? Like do you ever run away with him to get him out of danger or do you inspire and just start taking chunks out of them? My main oppoenent plays only Emberwatch atm and hes almost singlarly focused on killing him because hes terrified of him (rightly so) and then slakeslash normally clears up, but in the first article you said Vasillac is the key piece (and hes soooo fragile). Would really love to hear your thoughts as you are the highest performing Dread Pageant player I’ve ever seen!

Are there any warbands you think are really bad match ups? And why?

        Thanks!

I’ll admit I haven’t played into Emberwatch much, but their teleport, range, and ability to get to the priority target can be a problem for warbands with a lynchpin loike Vasillac. The good news is their low model count makes it easier for you to inspire. I’d probably accept the fact Vasillac is getting targeted early on, and stack him with as much defensive tech (as well as save your push/guard warscroll abilities for him) as you can. Ideally, he gets to swing while inspired at least twice – but that may not be possible if the diced don’t go your way. If you figure out how to deal with them, let me know!
