This Flex Warband is on fire! I mean, like literally ablaze. This tight-knit band forged in adversity benefits when one of their friends falls, so engage them with caution – they go out in blazes of glory, or something deadlier. Let’s get lit, delve deep into the shadows, and get to the bottom of this with Xandire’s Truthseekers.

So that you’re aware, this warband received some rules updates in the February 2026 Errata. I’ll comment briefly on the changes later in the article.

Xandire’s Truthseekers: Lore

Xandire’s Truthseekers originally debuted in the Harrowdeep season, and Calthia herself was the headliner. The warband is led by Xandire and comprises three stormcast and a sicknasty bird, delving deeper into the shady depths of Ulgu to find something or other that Sigmar wanted (investigate the frequent disappearance of Misthåvn’s fleets). She brings along Dhoraz Giant-Fell, a former tribal chieftain with a big mouth who bears a kinetic lodestone that lets him wallop real hard, stand fast, and kick some tail. Luxa Stormrider, my favorite of the trio, keeps to herself, rarely speaks, and never misses. Taros, her seeing-eye bird, might have a lot to do with this.

Calthia herself was going down there because she had seen visions of her own death there and needed to know more – the details of which are outlined in pretty high-quality detail in the Harrowdeep novella

Based on this penchant for seeing her own doom and needing to uncover what those omens portend, I actually opted to paint mine in the color scheme of a lesser-known Stormhost called the Crimson Seraphs. Those jabronis supposedly undertake soothsayer rites and have mastery of omens. Mostly I wanted to try painting gold but not do the Hammers of Sigmar poster boy scheme, so sue me.

Also, this warband taught me a lot about painting, such as ‘less is more’ and ‘thin your paints’ and ‘if your metallic doesn’t look how you want, the answer isn’t glob more on’. Sorry for the quality on this one! #AllModelsAreBeautiful

Xandire’s Truthseekers: Warscroll

From the February 2026 Errata:

This ability replaces the reroll aura from Taros, which I will discuss below.

Inspire

If one of the Stormcast is slain, everybody else inspires. If Taros the bird is slain, nothing happens, since they don’t care about it I guess. This matches their first edition condition, and really add the band of brothers feel to the whole thing. Thematic and cool, easy to remember, all gravy.

Not only do the other two inspire when one of them goes down, but they also all have a special death reaction as they go out in their blazes of glory. We’ll get to those in a moment, but this really is a set of heroic questing knights, and I just love it.

Raptor’s Eye

So this is a change based on the February 2026 Errata! Taros can now push after any other friendly moves, so long as they end within 2 of that fighter. They can push up to 3 hexes multiple times a round, which can be very impactful. Grab tokens at will, push into a flanking position, get United for Deadly synergy, you have many choices here. It’s not a huge power level increase but still an improvement over the original warscroll ability.

Seeker’s Strike

Once per round, if you hit somebody on a token, you can flip the token to the other side.

Didn’t manage to get overrun, but really want to change how many cover hexes are there for an Objective? Once a round, you can spin it with this. Did you get the overrun, and would love to land in cover or flip it back to Treasure side, but want to avoid the stagger token? You got it, boss. Hit somebody but can’t drive them back because of Guard or whatever, and want to make sure they’re not in cover anymore, or not on a treasure token for an objective they’re about to score? Here you go. I’m guessing this will come in handy more often than you might think.

Blaze of Light

Once per game, if Xandire is still alive, she can flash her lantern in everybody’s eyes and all enemy attacks have -1 dice. If you know they’re loading up for a big swing, you can tip the odds in your favor to make them miss, and this could be a game winner in the right circumstances. Lots of games they’ll hit anyway or miss anyway, but you still get the psychological edge.

Blazing Purity

Now we get to the first of our death reactions. Each Stormcast has one, useable only when they are slain.

If your leader dies, she can heal two friendlies one health apiece, or amazingly, heal one fighter twice. There is no range limitation on this effect, which can be huge. The correct counterplay is to make sure you kill her when nobody else is damaged so it does nothing – so smart Xandire’s players will protect her so she isn’t focus fired down early in the game.

Blazing Force

Onto Dhoraz. When he dies, you pick two friendlies and push them each a hex, or pick one friendly fighter and push them 2 hexes. This opens up huge potential benefits for the Truthseekers player – you can grab tokens, get out of danger, move somewhere to deny or score Objectives, or set up another attack. Your enemies don’t want to let Dhoraz live so he can keep crushing them with that grandhammer, but they also don’t want to hand out that push… choices, choices.

Blazing Reprisal

Luxa’s death reaction lets her make a ranged attack from her profile, not an upgrade if she happens to have one. Her first edition version was really spicy so it’s a little sad to see it toned down and prevent her from turret machine gunning people down, but a free attack is a free attack, and she should have at least one enemy in range when she goes down.

Xandire’s Truthseekers: Fighter Cards

Calthia Xandire

I’m going to jump on the biggest thing that’s going to potentially shift things for this warband’s niche – their leader, a stormcast leader, is 2 bounty. Taros earned themselves 1 bounty, to all three stormcasts clock in at an even 2. She’s still the leader, but cards that care about bounty (both yours and your opponents’) will behave a little differently than you’d expect out of what might otherwise be considered an ‘elite’ team.

Otherwise, she fits a decent profile that you’d expect – 1 shield and 5 health with a pretty accurate 3 hammers attack for 2 damage. Inspired, the only thing that changes is that she gains cleave on her weapon. That’s not usually a huge benefit, but it’s something, and remember you do get the benefit of whichever companion’s death reaction triggers at the same time.

Dhoraz Giant-Fell

Dhoraz has the same stat block as the other two, which again doesn’t change when inspired. He does hit for a solid 2 hammers 3 damage with stagger, and upon inspiring it improves to 3 hammers. 3H3D is a pretty awesome attack. People playing against Xandire may want to focus on slaying him first as a result, if they think they can tolerate the push(es) he’ll hand out when he goes down.

Luxa Stormrider

Luxa has the identical stat block to her companions but regrettably has a pretty bad set of attack profiles when uninspired. Unless you have the stagger dished out from Dhoraz, I wouldn’t want to count on her two swords melee attack. The only change she has when inspiring is to go to 3 hammers with cleave and ensnare on her ranged weapon, which is remarkably accurate, but probably doesn’t make up for the suspect melee profile, which does not improve.

If you kill her first and she’s slain while uninspired, you might not even have to worry all that much about her parting shot. This fighter has seen a pretty substantial downgrade from her first edition version, and that’s a shame.

Taros

OK, so as discussed Taros earned 1 bounty, so let’s hope they’re worth it! Starting at 5 move with flying and two dodge, they can definitely get where you need to go, but a two sword melee attack is again pretty bad. They’re also 2 health, which is better than some other animal companion minions in the game.

That’s all the propaganda I have for you. I wil they kept the crit grievous or something from last round so they could contribute and revive Mike Prime’s classic “Taros, does WORK. People play me, and they’re gonna learn to fear the bird”

I’m afraid the only one fearing the bird these days is the player controlling them.

In Practice

I got one test game in with these paladins using Blazing/Reckless and had a pretty good time! While the lack of 2 shields inspired definitely hurt, I was able to put a beating on people and score several objectives without major issue. They ended up losing their game on a tiebreaker, but had any of three separate dice rolls gone their way (which, statistically, should have) they would have won with relative ease. I may have underrated them a little bit!

Ultimately they really enjoyed the pushes in the deck and extra mobility, as their 3 move base was a little on the slower side. I still don’t think they’re going to crack anybody’s top-tier, but don’t let me be a debbie downer. If they’re your jam, you should have a solid time with them in this new rendition.

Potential Pairings

Blazing Assault is a good choice to help out with damage and accuracy, and since you’re already on decent attack profiles for your two main event fighters you’ll score and deal damage all over the place. This is a Flex warband, so if you’re going to lean strike that’s a great place to start. You could lean into this further by playing the ‘Crash Aggro’ Edge of the Knife pairing that some stormcasts enjoy, which is further aided by the fact you start the game with a tempered fighter in Taros. Other Blitzing choices that are reasonable are Raging Slayers and Reckless Fury.

If you want to lean into the Hold side of Flex, you could potentially do quite well with Emberstone Sentinels or Pillage and Plunder, both of which could be helped by their ability to flip feature tokens on a successful hit once per round.

Countdown to Cataclysm or Wrack and Ruin should work well enough with them, with the added benefit you’ll have a few ways to slay your own fighters if needed and trigger your Blazing reactions – though this might not be the world’s most competitive choice!

Wrap

I love that they have kept the ‘hard choices forced on your opponent’ theme with the death reactions, which should keep this warband interesting to play with and against. While it’s awesome to have a thematic warband with super cool models and story come back into the game, they don’t look quite as scary as I remember them being from a stats perspective.

What they do look like though is an EXCELLENT beginner-friendly warband. It’s all pretty straightforward, there’s not a ton of extra stuff to remember, you only have 4 fighters to manage, and even when you lose an important piece you still get something good out of the trade. They may not take the competitive scene by storm, but if you or a friend are looking to learn the game, you could do a lot worse than Xandire’s Truthseekers.
