Featured this month is a Slunge without any grunge by Brandon Ryan. This was entered into the Golden Daemon and features crazy cool stuff beyond just the technical paint skill but also the composition of the mini. The sword has hemispherical lighting, there’s a green bounce on the underside of the horn, the transitions from the bright green to the pallor in the hands… even the backside of the base is done with superb attention. Amazing stuff.

Sneaky Mike B, one of my Seattle Area locals put together this github tool titled “WH Dice Advice”. It’s got the ability to quickly compare and define different combats and you can add a log to save parameters to if you’d like. It changes every time you adjust anything, so you can watch the pie chart swell with success, tie, overrun, etc odds as you go. Cool stuff!

I have to take this moment to share some important but devastating news: What the Hex celebrated their 200th episode this month. Sadly, it is titled So Long, and Thanks for All the Spinefin. Inside, they recount their favorite moments from their time in the game, their time podcasting, and the fact that the show is going to be placed on an indefinite hiatus with so many new babies among the cast and challenges keeping up with regular content production. Absolute titans of the community who will be sorely missed. Put it on, reminisce with the crew, and make sure to send them your kindest farewells either in the Mortal Realms Discord or elsewhere.

Underworlds Underground continued our faction focus series with a discussion on the Skaven Warbands in Warhammer Underworlds and featured Rex, the ITC Champion for Zikkit’s Tunnelpack. We also released our second After Dark Episode, with a heavy dose of discussion about dinosaurs with even more swear words than the last one. Can confirm: Ankylosaurus is the coolest of all time.

Rounding out the podcasts for the month was Path to Glory who had two for us to listen to! First they interviewed Filip, the Rippa’s Snarlfangs BA/RF champion of the Maastricht Open. Second, the continued their tier list discussion with the B tier and covered why so many bands in the game are very well-balanced right now with a shot at podium contention. Some of my favorites are on the list!

Agents of Sigmar continues to be the premier WHU youtube channel; This month they posted a nemesis battle report showcasing Thyrielle’s Zephyrites with PP/HG against Skittershank’s Clawpack using BA/RS. Awesome 3D Treasure tokens too! They also discussed the fact that Thyrielle did not come packaged with a Rivals deck and what that might mean, and then talked about whether or not ‘the hexes are hexed’ and rumors about the future of the game, alongside discussion of other hex-based boardgames GW has produced.

Dadhammer Underworlds is back this month with another battle report, where Thorns of the Briar Queen paired with BA/DS take on Rippa’s Snarlfangs BA/RF

Misfit Guild put out a trio of videos for us this month: First was a ‘start here’ guide for beginners. Second, they laid down the gauntlet and declared that four of them would head to the Warhammer Open at Newport Wales to see if any brand new players have a shot at a worlds ticket. Finally, they posted a Nemesis Battle Report between Khagra’s Ravagers ES/HG and Grinkrak’s Looncourt RF/NP

BLOGS

I want to call out a very important piece put together by Mark of Path to Glory and Derek/Kaptain Murder. The latest Bacon’s Bits article covers the management of competitive stress with a focus on mental wellbeing. It’s an important subject that affects most people but is so rarely discussed. Both of these guys are incredibly talented players with a stellar track record and no need to ‘prove themselves’, yet they still get stressed and down on themselves. Props to them for being open about that and sharing their experience – if you or a friend have the butterflies before competition, this is must-read.

Staggerers has been on a TEAR recently, publishing loads of good stuff. Here’s a quick look at which rivals deck is best for every warband in the game when playing Nemesis. This is a deep-dive into Thyrielle’s Zephyrites with multiple deck builds and strategies to employ. Here’s a guide to memorization strategies for learning the cards in the game quickly, and finally check out this discussion on the card Tunneling Terror and how/when to make use of it.

The Lincoln Log has a lighthearted but solid piece titled “How To: Increase Your Warhammer Underworlds Win Rate By 42% (up to 37.5%)”. He recently came out to his second Grand Clash, improved his competitive play, and shares his key learning points. Great for beginners looking to replicate his growth!

Events/Organized Play

June 6-7 the French Nemesis ITC event in Bordeaux wrapped up, and Hugo of Spain took the win with Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. He will be headed to Barcelona for the World Championships once again! He dominated me with Borgit in the first round last year, so I’m excited to see how far he takes it this time.

June 13th, the Madtown Throwdown was also a swan song for the What the Hex podcast. Skyler took the win with his old favorites Ylthari’s Guardians, and while three tickets were on the line, he didn’t grab one since he can’t attend. Three cool people from the WtH local scene are going to worlds though, which is awesome! Read this Lincoln Log post for some more details

June 13th, Benelux Clash V in Den Haag, Netherlands went down. Kevin van Ravenswaaj went 4-0 with Rippa’s BARF, second place went to Rob with Mollog, and Quint took third with Thyrielle’s Zephyrites (BCP had it listed as Myari’s and I got real excited)

June 19-21 was the Edmonton Open, but I didn’t hear anything about what went down. Please let me know if you know!

June 21st, the Tuscany Grand Clash in Italy saw 14 players fight for a ticket, which ultimately was awarded to the unstoppably good Matteo Zani playing the Wurmspat. Rounding out the podium were Thomas Kyrstin and Alessando Vanzetti, both playing Thorns of the Briar Queen.

June 25th was a WHW clash, but I couldn’t find out what happened or who won. More to come?

June 28th was the Athenaes Underworlds Clash in Athenaes Siegel, Vienna Austria. The first prize went to Sebastian Lombardi with Thyrielle’s Zephyrites.

UPCOMING

July 11-12 will feature the Goonhammer Open in Baltimore. WHU will be featured on one of those days and will have a golden ticket to worlds. While they’re changing their names to Tabletop Battles, this convention has kept the GHO name (for one last time!). July 11-12 will also see Austria’s biggest gaming convention, Spielefest, run a best of 3 nemesis event that comes with a Golden Ticket on the line. Check out this BCP link and spend just 19 Euros for attendance at the event and get a free bonus ticket for Speilefest as well.

July 18th and 19th will be the Tacoma Open Grand Clash in Tacoma WA, which I will be attending. Bring friends and let’s party by Mt Rainier!

August 2nd, 2026 will host Into the Under-Ekeren IV in Antwerp, Belgium. A 5 round best-of-one nemesis event with a special prize for the highest ranking warband from the legends section! Registration here

August 13th-15th is the last Underworlds event in the Warhammer Open Series for the year, this one in Newport, Wales. Near Cardiff, so expect the Southwest UK to be out in force to fight for a shot at travel to Spain for Worlds.

My homie Saxthom/Thomas from Underworlds Underground is running an event on August 22nd at the Smite Club Open in Phoenix Arizona. It will have a Golden Ticket! Attendance is just $15 and half the proceeds go to an elementary school charity fund, so you know you gotta go. He’s even using… reasonable tiebreakers?!?!

August 22 will also see another event in Vienna – BCP here

August 29-30 expects to see the World Team Championship in Olomouc, Czechia. There are 14 teams already registered! Grab 5 competitors from your country and get ready to defend your nation’s honor in this legendary event. Here’s the Facebook Page to contact for questions and updates.

Exciting news from New Zealand; the nation’s first Grand Clash will be held in Christchurch on August 29th/30th (the date moved to accommodate NZ’s Father’s Day). It will be a best of 3 format over 5 rounds and will be a Worlds Qualifier event. Here’s a BCP link!

The NOVA Open happens early September in Washington, DC, and there will be Underworlds. A 2-day worlds-qualifier GT will be held Saturday September 5th-6th, in a 2 hours best of 3 format. Anyone not making the top cut will be entered into a Sunday Funday skirmish (which you can sign up for separately) and will consist of four best of 1, 1-hour rounds.

September 6th will feature a one-dayer in Vancouver BC with a ticket up for grabs. Go play in Minis & Mayhem with some of the nicest people in the game! BCP link here

September 11th will see a one-dayer at CRUCIBLE 2026 – WARHAMMER AT DISNEY WORLD in Lake Buena Vista Florida. There will be four 90-minute rounds of Nemesis with a Golden Ticket for Worlds on the line. Register your warband and deck on BCP, and email TimSchereveri@gmail.com for approval. Make a family vacation out of it!

September 11-13, in case there wasn’t enough Florida action for you that weekend, Quest Con Orlando expects to have an Underworlds event with a Golden Ticket. The event isn’t live yet, so you can’t buy tickets at the moment, but you’ll eventually be able to at https://www.questconorlando.com/

September 19-20 is scheduled for the Polish Team Championships in Warsaw. More information is forthcoming, but here’s a facebook link

October 3-4 will see the Las Vegas Open return with a Golden Ticket for Underworlds available. Gator Dave, a real DUDE, will be running the event! Get tickets here

Painting/Hobby

Kurnoth’s Heralds don’t have to be bright green or even purple, they can in fact be amber and orange like autumn foliage. Here’s some great work from Alessio Ricciardi (Zogrut) the even includes said foliage on the bases. Remarkable.

mroz4 is a genius, and has proved it again with these Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. Marblestone bases, the bluest troll in the world, and night goblin perfection throughout

Absolutely incredible Aemos Duncarrow by johnnyb_paints with some crazy dull-light effects on the axehead. And that leather though! The ability to make metal look smooth and real yet fake all at the same time is showcased again in this Thain Fourth and Last

Vic Saizo is in progress with some very high-fantasy colors on Zarbag’s Gitz.

Very productive this month, he’s also knocked out Drepur’s Wraithcreepers in green OSL with awesome cloak texturing

Maria Wlodarz/Ace of Paints keeps floating to the top of these roundups because she is SO DANG GOOD. Look at the Jaws, just look at em. Then go back and look at the tile floor.

“Mossy Mollog’s Mob” by Amnoon that features nearly fluorescent color pops and incredible saturation. I especially like the oranges, and be sure to click the link to see Mollog’s back. No detail was ignored on this paintjob!

Garrek, of Garrek’s Reavers fame, is back in super clean bidirectional lighting and good transitions by DinosKellis

Zikkit’s Tunnelpack in a gorgeous deep yellow and lime green. Both of these colors are super hard to paint, but both are done so well here alongside some dark NMM. Nice work from beygle-saures-rex

Xandire’s Truthseekers in Sons of the Gladius colors by Crown-and-Dagger-MP and I have to be honest; I had never heard of this stormhost but now I am seriously considering them for my next stormcast paint project. What an awesome contrast between the green and black, gold and white. Super well done. Doraz’s face is phenomenal. Stuart also went the totally opposite palette direction with Thanatek’s Tithe in dark red, bright orange, and glinting effects all over

Diorama/Duel between Ylarin and the rising Petitioner by lupusamicus – excellent composition and the dynamic heights of the models really sell the scene.

Dunge0nchild has some Crimson Court in BROWN armor, which might be a first? It kicks ass though
