Hello Underworlds fans! Here at Spent Glory we try our hardest to provide a useful, relevant, and up to date resource for new and returning players to get up to speed. Since the last site update around Wintermaw’s release in June, we’ve had updates to the rules, an entire refresh of the warband design across the range, new Rivals deck releases, and more since some articles were originally written. As a result, some links were broken, and other information was stale. Things have now been updated for December 2024!
The “Why Play Underworlds” article has been updated to explain the newest mechanics and promote Embergard as the best modern boardgame available. The Beginner and Returning player articles have been updated for the new edition. The Beginner article suggests new ‘recently released warbands that are good to start with’ and includes a batter ‘how to play’ video link. The Returning Players’ article has had the rules changes updated with Embergard’s newest ruleset. The Introducing Young Players article has broken things down as a stepwise way of learning Embergard. The Lexicon/acronyms list has been refined and includes Archetypes like Strike and Flex for every warband and deck. The Formats in Underworlds article explains the new format rules as they currently exist. And finally, the “Can I Use This Old Warband?” series now has updated information on EVERY warband from first edition, including suggested pairings that include rivals decks from the Embergard box along with Reckless Fury and Wrack & Ruin.

Please let me know if you find anything else that needs updating, and as new Rivals decks, rules/errata documents, and FAQ’s roll out, I’ll continue to maintain my resources to better reflect the current state of things. I plan to eventually make a new “How to Build a Nemesis Deck” article in the near future, as well as relaunch the Contender Series for higher-level competitive tips specific for Embergard in the near future. Until then, enjoy the read, and make sure to Spend your Glory!
