Welcome back to Spent Glory’s Annual(-ish) painting contest for the Seattle(-ish) local scene! Two weeks ago, 12 contestants had their entries displayed on this post and after ~281 votes, we have our results! Drum roll, please….

FIFTH PLACE

In fifth place, finishing with an aggregate score of 81, were my Slaanesh-coded Blood of the Bull. I’m surprised, confused, and humbled, and fully aware I only edged out Vanja’s Hrothgorn for fifth because he didn’t finish before the deadline. I’m still really excited to see his final product.

Voter comments on this included “Michael’s Blood of the Bull are a bright and colorful feast. As someone who loves a bright saturated style I think they’re exceptionally well done (especially Zuldrakka!)

FOURTH PLACE

Grabbing fourth place with a score of 87 were Ethan’s Emberwatch. These are simply remarkable and as a newer member to our local group I’m excited to see what else he can put out while getting into the Underworlds line.

Voter comments included “Ethan’s Emberwatch is just a masterclass of a clean paint job. So smooth, so crisp. Well done!”

THIRD PLACE

In third place with 119 points and earning a free warband as a podium prize were Josh’s Eyes of the Nine. Josh has a really unique style that fit super well with this warband, and the fluoro paints and blacklight glow are just amazing.

Voter comments included “Josh’s Eyes of the nine are wonderfully psychedelic and everything I expect followers of Tzeentch to be”

SECOND PLACE

Remarkably, we actually had a tie for first place, with tiebreakers needed to determine the winner. This warband and the overall winner both got 121 points in the voting rubric. Andy’s Jaws of Itzl had an understated color scheme that offset Kro-Jax quite well, and Andy’s work is always a treat. Enjoy your prize warband, buddy!

Voter comments included “Mixed metals are hard to pull off, but these did the trick. Great work on the basing too!”

FIRST PRIZE

Our overall contest winner was Mike and his Thorns of the Briar Queen. Tied with Andy at 121 points, the tie broke his way due to weight of positive voter comments and a greater proportion of first place votes in the final tally. He’ll take home a new warband as a prize, and a glass trophy to accompany this awesome rendition.

Voter comments included “The pop of color in an otherwise monochrome scheme really sells the effect. The bases are another marvelous offset to the NMM and textures.”

Wrap

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort; the 12 contestants, the hundreds of votes, the comments, all of it. These are a lot of fun to run and it’s always good to showcase and reward people for thing beyond competitive success. I’ll try to run one of these again later this year, and I absolutely encourage you to run one for your local scene as well.
